About Us

Established in 1971, Danbury Fencing Ltd has remained at the forefront of the fencing industry in the Essex region.

When the company first started it was primarily involved in fence erection, since then it has expanded its facilities to include a well stocked warehouse for trade and retail and a well stocked yard.

With over thirty five years experience in the fencing trade the staff here have the knowledge and expertise to help you choose the correct materials for your situation. However small, large or irregular your site or garden, we can provide the fencing to suit. We are commited to providing our customers with  high quality products and  the service to match.

Danbury Fencing is a long standing member of the Fencing Contractors Association.  Over the years we have maintained a high standard of workmanship, both in the quality of products we manufacture and the standard of fencing we erect. As a result of this standard of excellence the company has gained a good reputation which lead to our move to new premises in May 1997 at Olivers Farm in Witham.

The Company's policy is to purchase timber only from sources where the supplier can demonstrate its commitment to environmentally friendly sustainable forestry. We are sure the demand for certified products will increase and in order to meet customers requests for certified timber and timber products, we have been granted FSC and PEFC Chain of custody certification.

Fences and the law

Since fences are among the most common causes of disputes between neighbours, you should consider one more thing, the law, before looking at the types of fences available. Unfortunately, it is very complex, so if a dispute arises, try to find a compromise before involving lawyers.

Post positions and so on are no guide to ownership. You must consult the property deeds. These are also the only guide to the property`s boundaries, which do not always coincide with the position of fences.

Unless the deeds say differently – as on some modern estates – provided a fence is not encroaching on neighbouring property and is not a nuisance, you are not obliged to maintain it. In fact, you need not have a fence at all. The need to repair or build one does not give you the right to trespass on your neighbour`s land, so you need his/her permission to enter their property.

The other source of conflict, the choice of fence, is covered by planning laws. Unless you live in a conservation area or listed building, almost anything goes. But there is a height limit. The maximum allowed without planning permission is 1M facing a public highway, 2M elsewhere.
